Canada Plants is the culmination of many years of work teaching and pursuing a passion for plants. What you see today started out as a course manual, became a series of CD's and eventually because of size became a DVD. Today it is a growing resource of plants and plant information garnered from many years of teaching and travelling the world looking at and understanding the plant community.

This website contains an ever growing database of plants and plant related information that has been garnered through experience in the garden and landscape and through my travels around the world. All of the plants on this website I have viewed 'up close and personal.' This is not a collection of images collected from the Internet and re-posted but a resource of real experience.

We will frequently be adding more plant profiles, conference and lecture presentations, articles and papers covering the many facets of plants and plant use and although directed towards my gardening experience here in Canada I hope it finds uses outside our national boundaries.

As you read through the more developed plant profiles you will realize that I can be quite opinionated and sometimes blunt about my experiences with a specific species of plant. However after removing with digger masses of Sorbaria sorbifolia that became quite mischievous I can state that there are not bad plants only bad uses of plants.

This resource is the result of not only my personal efforts but the work of many individuals. I thank the many students who continually add to it through their research and quest for knowledge. It is because of the thirst for knowledge that this resource was developed and it is with their continued enthusiasm that it grows.

Of course technology plays an important role in the development of such a resource: Johnny Rodgers at Creative Creature was and still is the brains behind the development of the database, with more recent developments supported by the dream team of Harrison Grieve, Jonah Mamakeesmic, Warren Robertson and Krystie Haire.
